Pretentious

According to my visitor counter I have had my first iPad visitor, which is very exciting. But what's strange is they apparently came from Facebook, but I don't think anyone on my Facebook has an iPad. This assumption isn't based on me knowing what all of my Facebook friends own, just that if this person owns an iPad, surely they would have felt compelled to tell the world.
Some of you will no doubt have picked up on the irony of me being pretentious in my opening paragraph about pretentiousness. And many of you will probably now assume that was the joke all along, a delicious ironic opening. But, to be honest, I am just pretentious. I am of the unfounded belief that I am somehow culturally superior than most others. Furthermore, I use sentences such as " I am of the unfounded belief that I am somehow culturally superior than most others.", which has Radio 4 listener written all over it. Oh, and I listen to Radio 4.
But really, I am not particularly cultured, if that word even has meaning these days. In fact, I would go as far as to say either we are all cultured or we are all uncultured. We all belong to modern culture in some way or another and whilst we may not spend all our time in art museums and going to cheese tastings (which is a pity, as cheese is awesome), I have also never seen anyone walking around with a spear and a loin cloth. The difference between the lowest members of society and the highest are much less than those between the lowest members and those who are truly without culture, as one cannot, by definition, be a member of society without also belonging to a culture.

Oh, I also sometimes write essays which pretend to give insights into humanity but don't really. So that's pretentious.

Firstly, if you use NetworkedBlogs to post on facebook it means anyone can find your blog and click on the link.

And secondly I think your points about culture are really interesting and I would love to see a post on culture from you in the future.
