Those of you who don't know me in real life probably assume I am a 6'2" beauty with the face of the Greek god Adonis, washboard abs and pectorals that make even the most lesbian uteri consider switching sides. Those of you who know me will know that I am actually a 5'2" beauty with the face of the Greek god Adonis, washboard abs and pectorals that make even the most lesbian uteri consider switching sides.
But my slightly shorter stature still somehow manages to be mentioned occasionally, despite the fact that I'm clearly brilliant in every other physical way. There is a large amount of difference in the treatment of short and tall men, perhaps mostly in the dating field where short men are often deemed less attractive. However, I have worked out a way to make sure my height never reduces my chances at getting a date: I have developed a personality so repulsive that it wouldn't matter if I were 30' tall, woman would still run screaming. Though to be honest that might just be because I'd be 30' tall, making me actually qualify for monster status.
Another thing that is affected by height is income. The income gap between short and tall people is similar to the gap between genders. Perhaps that's the real reason that there is so much discrimination against women, they're shorter. Also, the taller candidate is more likely to become president.
Despite all this there are some successful, attractive short men (excluding myself) including Jamie Cullum, Michael J. Fox and Wolverine. Also, Danny de Vito, if you're into that sort of thing. Still, I might consider high heels.

Hair
I have long hair. Not just shaggy "long for a guy" long, ridiculously long. About 2ft (maybe 3, it's been a while so I can't really remember) when I measured it last. Not only do I have long hair, I also don't have any good ideas for a blog post this week, so I'm going to have to run with this.
Normally I don't think about my hair that much, but a combination of meeting someone who, after quickly proclaiming her sobriety, made her amazement to my hair clear, and going on a blog about very long hair for women where the majority had shorter hair than mine has made me contemplate my hair.
A question I often get asked is "why the bloody hell do you have long hair?" My answer varies with my mood, from a simple "dunno" to a sarcastic "because I didn't cut it", with the classic staring at my hair in utter amazement as though I hadn't noticed it before then running off lying somewhere in the middle. But the truth is I'm not sure why I don't get it cut. Occasionally I say it represents my individuality, but then I hear myself and realise what a tool I sound. Other times I convince myself that once the 70s rock look comes back my hair will start paying attractiveness dividends, despite the fact that people have in the past told me things along the lines of "you have a nice face, pity about the hair." So perhaps it is deliberate self sabotage? I believe the true reason is probably a much simpler case of fear of change and getting invested in something. Basically, after growing my hair for a couple of years I got into a "I've come this far" mentality, so as each day passes it becomes less and less likely that I'll be able to have it cut and more and more part of what I perceive as my identity. I'm a little worried this might happen with my facial hair too, with my stupid nearly-ginger-but-not-really beard scaring off people and encouraging the idea that I am homeless with ever increasing length and therefore effectiveness.
The other question I often get asked is whether I'm ever planning to have it cut. The answer is yes, I do plan on having it cut at some point. The only problem is that as I always see it happening sometime in the quite distant future it is possible I will simply never get around to having it cut. I have thought about getting it cut recently, but I'm just not sure I will. There are still so many things I haven't done with it, such as Jedwarding it straight up or suspending my whole body weight from it. So for now it seems like my hair and connected weird look that comes with it are going to be around for a bit longer.

Appearance
Recently I've started wondering how people see me. It began after I was listening to recordings of myself and I was shocked to learn that I am on occasion flamboyant. This was in conflict with my self image of a brooding poet. So I've decided to take a look at how people might view me and how I'd like to be viewed.
I'll start with a description of my "style", as I have a quite individual one. What I typically wear is quite loose trousers, a t-shirt (often of some band or alcoholic drink), a waistcoat, a leather waistcoat, a denim jacket, a leather effect trilby and when out a leather or suede jacket. Oh, and a silk tie. Add to this my hair which I measured at 2ft and you get a quite strange look. It's a look that has developed over time, with new parts added every now and then, so it lacks a unified goal. But if I were to say what I'm going for with the look I'd probably say (well actually I'm saying it now) is I'm going for roguish rockstar, with flavours of traveller, artist and punk. Or, as my brother puts it, "You look like a moron."
So I'd say I'm going for a tortured poet look, but as I said before I can come off as a bit flamboyant. So I'm shooting for Bob Dylan and ending up with Dale Winton. Great. That means I'll end up saying things such as "This scotch is as bitter as my soul. Isn't it just Fab-U-Las." What a chilling vision of my future.
But perhaps I can fix this with my new "Spring look", which is black skinny jeans, white t-shirt, black shirt with white stripes and the trilby and tie from my "Algar classic" look. It's a much simpler look and hopefully strikes the right balance between broody and metrosexual, or as I like to call it, broodosexual.
Just one final point: Doing research for this post I asked if people thought I was attractive. The first response was "you have a good bone structure", which seems to be a way of avoiding the question. I then posted the question on facebook and got "No comment." from someone who I haven't actually seen for years (and who should be indebted to me as I potentially saved him from a hangover) who then asked someone else I haven't seen in years who responded with "no". Someone else also said no, but he's secretly in love with me and is just hiding it.
That was this weeks post and as always feel free to leave feedback and suggestions.
