Chapter 2 - The Pool of Tears
''YES!' cried Algar, who was suddenly growing at an incredible rate.
Having never been this tall, he was delighted at his new height.
'Goodbye feet' he said, grinning smugly. Algar had always been a man
of great self pride, however now he was feeling more confident than
ever now. As the idea of being tall very much appealed to him, he
suddenly realised that now, although he could reach the key, he was
never going to be able to get through that door. This set off a fresh
wave of annoyance, and he began to wonder if this really was such a
great idea in the first place. All of a sudden, he heard the pattering
feet. It was the white rabbit, racing along in rather a hurry,
carrying a leather hat and a fan. 'COME BACK!' Algar shouted at the
Rabbit, but before he could chase after him, the Rabbit was out of
sight. He had left behind the hat and the fan though. Algar picked
them up and began to fan himself as it was quite hot in this strange
place. As he began to get cooler, he also began to shrink.
Disappointed at his loss of new found height, Algar had a quick sulk.
He put the hat on and pulled it over his eyes. He wasn't sure if he
wanted to explore the garden now, even if he was able to get through
the very small door. Coming to terms with the return of this tiny
size, he started to look on the brighter side of things. 'Well' he
thought, 'I guess at least I won't be 10 times bigger than everything
through that door.' Rarely one to get excited, Algar got up off the
floor and slowly made his way into the garden. 'This had better be
amazing or I'll be having strong words with that stupid Rabbit'.
Just as he stepped out of the door, his foot slipped and splash! He
was covered in salty water. Algar couldn't believe it, he'd fallen
into his own tears. 'There's no way I cried this much!' he insisted to
himself, reminding himself he needed to man up if he was going to
survive in this insane new place. He heard something else splashing
around in the tears too, it was a duck and a mouse. Algar remembered
how small he'd become, and the situation made slightly more sense. Not
a terrible amount though, being a person of literal thinking, he could
see no way that this was real. 'It must just be a dream, I'm probably
asleep..that'll be it' he said to himself as he followed the creatures
he'd just met into the garden.
